A long way to go – part 7

Posted on Dezember 31st, 2015

At last on the top!
And enough time til the sunrise, to make some photos in other directions. This picture was taken to the south, where you can see the village of Lech. And no, this is not the sun in the sky. I’m still waiting for the sunrise and I’m doing this not during high noon.
By the way, the big mountain you can see in the image, is the Karhorn, which I wanted to climb but once more the weather doesn’t want it too.

A long way to go – part 6

I was wrong, there are still some stars visible in the sky.
Time to look back, where I came from. It was steep and the sun is slowly crawling to the horizon, but at the moment we can only see the shadows of the glow before the sunrise or we wouldn’t see any stars.
Although the trail was steep, the steepest part will begin at this position until the top to the peak. At the border of the Wartherhorn on the right side, you can see the top station of the chairlift, where I took my first shot of this night.

Now comes the steep part on this tour.
After I could see the first glow in the eastern sky, on the screen of my camera, by eye I couldn’t see it yet, I know, this would be my last starscape shot for tonight. Until I reached the top, the stars will no longer be visible.
Thereby I don’t miss the sunrise, I will not stop until I reached the gap you can see at the horizon. On the left is the Wartherhorn with antenna on the top. Ah, and by the way, this is sunlight, but reflected by the moon. The sun will be visible one and a half hour later, from the other direction.

Hurry up, the sun is coming!
Uh oh, what can the camera see there at the horizon? Is there already the first morning glow visible? It seems I had to walk a good part faster or I will miss the sunrise once more.
But beside the timing problems, it’s nice how the moon is illuminating the landscape. The peak that you can see at the edge of the Wartherhorn is the same mountain you saw on the first image of this tour and it’s called Bieberkopf and it has nothing to do with the youngster who’s trying to stay famous.

Yes, it’s still a far way to go.
I should stow my photography gear back in my rucksack and hike a bit faster. The left peak, the Wartherhorn is my destination. The bigger mountain in the center is the Karhorn which was originally my goal, but because of the bad weather I will go to the smaller one on the left. Wich means, I should go now.
By the way, you can see the cables of the funiculars for the daylight tourists? But now, I’m the only person here, up between the mountains.

The nature strikes back.
Okay, not that hard and probably it was anyway my fault. After I took the last image, I missed the right way and walked an extra tour. Actually I had to know where to go, because it was the same way I took with Bubu two days earlier in the other direction down to the valley.
But however, this gaves me the chance to take this image of the mountain I hiked the afternoon before. On the other hand I was now late and I had to hurry, not to miss the sunrise on the peak.

Yes, I fooled the weather!
You know, everytime I stayed a weekend in Austria, exactly this weekend was rainy until we left on the sunday morning, when the sun came back. But this time, we booked one day longer and while on sunday morning the rain was still falling and the clouds were hanging at the peaks until the evening, they vaporized before midnight.
Ha, I set the alarm clock at one o’clock in the night and climbed the mountain during the night. Our hotel is directly beside the valley station of the chair lift, unfortunately it was not running during the night. So I had first to climb the hill until I was on the height of the top station. You can see the lights of the hotel down in the valley where I started.

A huge panorama

Posted on Dezember 12th, 2015

The last image of my afternoon hike should be this very large panoramic shot.
For this image I changed my lens from wide angle to my 100mm. But I doesn’t use a tripod and shoot all the 40 images of this panorma by hand. My computer had to work for a long time until all images were stiched together. But at the end I get this amazing panorma of 30’000 x 8’000 pixels.
If you zoom in you can even see the people on the other side of the valley. Enjoy it!

This is a small version, click here for the medium version. Unfortunately only 16384 pixels width are working :(

An afternoon hike – part 6

Posted on Dezember 7th, 2015

Why is Bubu looking so tired?
Well, can you see how steep the slope is? It was really steep and my little friend here, has nothing others in mind as, running to every marmot hole he can find. And they were not directly by the trail.
It was always the same routine, Bubu hears a whistle, his ears flaps outside, he gets a rigit look and a second later he was running downwards. And long time before he reached the hole, the rat was hidden and laughing it ass off. After he reached the first hole, Bubu saw another marmot and started again to the second hole. And this goes on and on and on.
I thought either Bubu gets an heart attack or I can carry him down to the valley, because he is finished. But luckily Bubu masterd the whole way until we were back again by the car, where he unloaded his dirt filled fur in my cars trunk.

An afternoon hike – part 5

After Bubu had pimped up his fur, we meet this guy.
It’s not that common to find horses up on an alp and so we were a bit surprised to find a horse herd between cows and marmots.
And while we hiking along the trail, this young foal comes to meet us and watched us curious. Okay, I thought, if you watching me, then I will photographing you.
I tried to get a really near shot with my ultra wide angle lens, so I’ll get this big mouth in front. But after a few shots, Bubu has to check what that interesting is which I’m looking for. The foal saw Bubu too and he was more interesting than the dump photographer. And short after, mama horse was also coming to keep us on distance to her child. So my portrait session was finished before it has started.
