The holiday is over

Posted on Oktober 6th, 2015

Two weeks in an offline world, nearly.
We spent 10 days in France in a natural park in Burgundy. We rented a small hut near Saulieu. It was planed to travel around and visit some nice places and castles in the surrounding region and in fact this was what we did.
But it was a bit more difficult, the lovely small hut was in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by wood. The natural park Morvan is a huge piece of deep forest. There are streets through the wood, but they are narrow, curvy and bumpy, so you can only drive very slow, especially if you don’t want your dog is flying around in the back of your car. And so we needed every day a good part to drive until we left the woods.
It was not only far away to drive it was also far away for the internet and cell phones, too far. And so I missed to blog for the whole time, but now I’m back with a bunch of photos.
We visited a lot of beautiful castles and picturesque villages. The landsacpe was amazing and the medieval buildings were awesome.

A thunderstorm is coming

Posted on Dezember 3rd, 2014

It was getting darker and darker, while I was reading a book. I thought, wow, the time was going by that fast. But no, there was as big cloud before the sun and I could hear the distant rumble of the upcoming thunderstorm.
What does the brave photographer in this situation? Right, he runs out and shoot images until the thick raindrops are falling from the sky. But first, the landscape was bathed in this dull, yellow light. It was looking a bit about doomsday :) and this at my holiday in southern France. But until the sky is only equal grey, the sky is more interesting with clouds than with boring blue, in my opinion.

The old church of Venasque

Posted on November 13th, 2014

At my last stay in France, I was in a region called Provence. It looks a bit like the Tuscany in Italy, except they are talking french, it’s anyway near the italian border.
However, I visited some nice old villages among others the village of Venasque. A small place on the top of a hill with narrow alleys and an old church, which was built in the 17. century and called like the famous dome in Paris, Notre Dame.
I used my Feisol tripod on the maximum height of about 2 meters and took a bracket series for an HDR image. The tripod is no more as stable on this height and it bounces a bit, therefore I used the 10s timer to wait until the camera was stable again. The usage of the camera at this height, gives me the possibility to level the camera horizontal to avoid angular lines, more or less.

Purple lavender fields

Posted on Oktober 27th, 2014

Now we stuck in the deep autumn fog. There are no sun rays coming through the thick gray mass. And after a really cloudy summer the sad thing is, the clouds are gone now. There are no clouds above us, if I would go up over 1400m then I could see the bluest sky you can imagine.
Therefore I need a memory for a sunny day in a warm summer, like here in the Provence. It was a warm, sunny and the air was filled of the fragrance from the lavender fields all around us.
Ahh, now the gray autumn day isn’t as bad as it was before :)

The backyard

In the Provence you can find a lot of small, medieval and picturesq villages, just as Venasqe.
A beautiful little place on the top of a hill, with narrow alleys and tight ways. But also the residents here don’t want to miss a car. And at the latest now you know, why here in France so many small cars on the roads are.
In such a garage there is no space for a S-Class Benz and if, then you will never ever can leave your garage through the narrow alleys. Maybe you can build a garage for your Benz at the foot of  the hill and take the last piece with a Peugeot 108. :)

Thunderstorm in the Provence

Posted on September 10th, 2014

The last few years, when we are going to a vacation, it is always raining. No matters where we are going, the rain is following us doggedly. But this hasn’t to be bad all the times, especially if in between is clearing off, then you get often some good opportunities for amazing images.
Just like here in the the Provence, where I could shoot directly from our balcony of our holiday flat this stunning sunset. Sometimes you have to use the opportunities you get offered.

The lavender of Banon

Posted on Juni 13th, 2014

Last year we visited the Provence a region in France. We choosed the time when the lavender bloom is most impressive, in the middle of July. First I had some trouble to find larger lavender fields, but after a few tours with the car, I found some really nice places.
So I found this field with the lovely small and picturesque village of Banon. I was there while the hot sun was shining in the middle of the day. But what a boring images do you get at this time. As you know me, I like the nights for photo shooting, therefore I came back short after the sunset and took this colorful image of Banon and the surrounded lavender fields.
