Orion above

Posted on Januar 23rd, 2015

I was on my way for night photos in the mountains as I could see the clouds in the sky.
I thoughtto me, oh no, clouds again they will cover my beloved stars. But then I realized what the this clouds made to the stars. The clouds worked like a giant soft filter.
If you are watching stars in the sky, then you can recognize the star constellations. But on the image, when you can see all the other stars too, the constellations are no more recognizable, between all the stars. But look at this, when the foggy clouds are moved in front of the stars, can you see the Orion? This is really amazing how some clouds can completely change the sky.

Pragelpass

Posted on November 21st, 2014

It was in the late 2012 as I started a test series with some lenses and bodies. For that we drove to the Kanton Glarus, into the Kloental.
Until then I used a Canon 60D and for this night I borrowed a Canon 5D and some lenses for a test run. And what should I say, after this weekend I ordered a 5DmkII and a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 lens. It was one of the first shot with this combo and it was really hard to find the focal point.
The night was clear and crisp without clouds and a bright fullmoon, so it  looks a bit like a daily shot. This image was stacked with Fitswork out of 4 shots for less noise.

Where is the plane flying to?

Posted on Juli 20th, 2014

Winter in the flatlands, fog the whole long day. But then suddenly, short before the sunset, the fog dissolves a bit and we can guess the sun behind the mountains.
She throws the shadows of the mountains in the sky and through the clouds we can see a lonely plane in the sky. Where is it flying to? To a warm, fog free place in the middle of the sea with palms and endless sand beaches…
Who cares, if you can see such a sunset, who wants to go to a south sea island!

The skyline of the alps

Look at this, what a beautiful sight! It’s the view from the Selun mountain to south east over the alps. You can can see the lake Walensee and behind the Mountains of the kanton Glarus.
And who says a moonless nights are better to see stars? Maybe, but the moonlight is lighten up the wonderful landscape of this nice part of the earth.
I personally like this awesome sight over the Skyline of the Alps and every step at the steep way up to the mountain was worth it.

A very clear sky in Glarus

Posted on Januar 15th, 2014

On my way up to the Klausenpass, were I came to late to make some starscapes, I took this poto. It is somewhere in Kanton Glarus I don’t no more know where this exactly was. It was very dark in the valley, so I couldn’t see what I was shooting. But the sky was so clear and you could see so many stars. On the left side at the crest you can see the last moon light.
In the sky you can see as the brightest point Jupiter. In the upper middle you see the Plejades and at the lower part of the sky you see the star constellations Orion and the Orion Nebula, even with a wide angle lens at 11mm.
