The sun disappears

Posted on April 23rd, 2015

Only for a short time is the sun visible, before she is hiding behind the mountains.
Now it’s no more far until I reach my destination and the sun is already nearly hidden. Always the same thing, I’m short in time and I need to hurry to see the sun on the top.
So I took not the path, instead I choose the direct way upwards over the ski slope. Well it was certainly faster but also much steeper. My snow shoes had a very good traction but I realized the steepness when I tried to breath and at the end I reached the top without a heart attack.
For the way down I choose the hiking path around the hill, because I learned my lesson, downwards is the traction of the snow shoes much worse and If you loose your traction, you will only stop until you reach the bottom of the hill…

Hiking weather in sight

Posted on April 21st, 2015

Before you get some dreamy alpine images, you have to hike to the photo spot.
It was a nice, warm spring day when I was walking to the Rotenfluh and I could still use the snow shoes. I like to walk with my snow shoes through the white mountain landscape.
Okay, I had the snow shows mount and unmount several times because not every part was still snow covert. But I was really pleased that I had my snow shoes with me. The snow was already wet and grainy and without my feet extensions I was always sliding on the ground. But what could be more nice as an awesome sunset in spring with green grass and snow together? Pure nature!

Star gazing

Posted on April 16th, 2015

Last night I was for a short evening trip on the peak.
Just decided, because of the clear weather, I was for a few hours on a night tour. This time I visited the Rotenfluh near the Mythen, the mountain behind me. I drove to the Ibergeregg and walked about an hour to this viewing point. Good I had my snow shoes with me, there was still snow covering the ground and the snow was very slippery, but with my snow shoes I walked easily a steep red ski slope upwards. Okay easy with the traction but I had always be careful not to step on my tongue.
Anyway, I spend a few hours on the top with a spectacular starry sky and a good view to the near mountains. But for the moment is this the only image I processed to see what you can expect :)

Light pollution

Posted on August 16th, 2014

It doesn’t have to be bad, if you can see all the bright enlightened cities. It can also be very nice to look at all the lights, if the lights of the night are illuminating the fog from below.
On this journey I expected it and I wouldn’t be dissappointed. The fog ceiling was enough low and the Mythen was enough high. You have only to carry all the gear up to the mountain and after the shooting you have to carry it more far down, because all the funiculars are no more working. But I could take some nice images and I think it was worth it, or not?

The sunny side

Posted on Juli 9th, 2014

If you are looking the whole day to a gray sky, it has not to mean, there is no sun. On the top of the mounains, above the sea of fog, you may find a much more beautiful world.
While the day is come to an end and the sun is hiding behind the horizon, the poor pigs down in the valley enjoying the end of a gray day.
Good I took the time and the effort to climb up the way on the mount Mythen.

Sightseeing from Mount Mythen

Posted on Juli 4th, 2014

This is an image, which I like especially much. First you have a wonderfull sightseeing from the Mount Mythen to the mountains in Kanton Glarus. And second I like how the mountains are stacked to the horizon.
What I also like is the clearness, which is missing in many nightshots, because of the high ISO noise. There is nearly no noise in this image. You can see this if you watch and enjoy the image in full size.

Grass in the wind

Posted on Juni 7th, 2014

In the center of the image you see a smeary thing. These are grass blades moving by the wind, while I made a long time exposure image. It’s interesting to see only a strange smear… what do you mean? You do more like the rest of the landscape? Okay, I see – it’s also very nice :)
I shoot this image on the peak of the Mythen, you know, where I missed the sunset and made other images of the fog of sea. Ah by the way, this is only moonlight and not sunlight. Okay technically it is also sunlight…

The beautiful sea of fog

Posted on Mai 23rd, 2014

It was one of these grey and foggy day in the autumn and I told me, why not go and see the other side of the fog. And so I packed my rucksack, jumped in my car and drove to the mountains.
After a short ride with the cablecar and a longer hard climb up to the Mythen, I missed the sunset. But all my hopes to see the beauty of the sea of fog are beaten by this extraordinary view down to the world. You can still see the orange sunset while up in the sky the stars are already blinking. And then, the lights through the fog, how amazing! I was really impressed by this wonderful sightseeing down to the civilisation.
After some shooting hours on the peak, I walked back to my car, this time I have to walk the whole way down, the cablecars are no more working after midnight. I reached the car at one o’clock and I was back at home approximately at three o’clock – good night. :)

The closed peak hut

Posted on April 19th, 2014

The idea was to get up to this nice mountain and make first some beautiful sunset images, followed by the great dusk images and finished with the awesome nightshots.
But Mr. Fear was too late to see the sunset. I was nearly running the last part and missed the sun hiding behind the horizon. So I had enough time for all the other images, I want to take and I was staying up there until about 10 o’clock pm and walked down in the dark night.
This mountain path up to the Mythen is closed from end of October until May when the snow is gone. I was at the very last day up there, before the snow was coming. The peak hut was already closed for the winter and I was maybe the last person on the peak until the spring. On the other hand, who knows what other crazy guys are doing :)

The last meteor before sunrise

Posted on März 22nd, 2014

After I watched the whole night the falling perseids, I packed the gear in my backpack again and was walking back, then I saw this beautiful sight on the Mythen, so is called this mountain.
I shoot this image short before the horizon was getting red. And no, what you see at this horizon is not the dawn it is the light pollution.
And what you also can see are the hikers with their headlights going up to enjoy the sunrise from the peak.
