A spring sunset in Appenzell

Posted on Juni 14th, 2014

It was a warm and sunny day in April, when I decided to stay a night in the nature at the Appenzell region in Switzerland. After I drove as far as I can up to the hill, I had to walk another several hundert meters of altitude difference up the hill to the peak of the Faehnerenspitz.
This time I was early enough to take pictures of the sun, the sun setting, the dusk and of course the starry night. This image was taken on the highest point and you can see the Säntis on the left and the city of Appenzell on the right. On the peak of the Säntis you can already see the light of to rising fullmoon.

Sunset over Bensheim

Posted on April 20th, 2014

I’m still in easter holiday and after all the cloudy nights without a chance to get some nightshots, I had to walk with Bubu in the rain. And the best part is, it doesn’t rain everywhere, it rains only in the small side valley where I was walking with my dog, hmmm.
About the photo, where I shot two years ago. I was walking around to search good places for the portrait shooting of the bridal couple, when I found this sightseeing over Bensheim while the sun was just hide behind the horizon.
If you are lucky and the clouds are at the right position you can shoot nice sunsets everywhere. If there are no clouds you can have the best sightseeing and the sunset will not be spectacular. So don’t hope for a cloudless sky, okay to much clouds are also bad…

Fürstenlager

Posted on März 19th, 2014

Near the german town Bensheim is a recreation area close to the town, called Fürstenlager. A good friend of mine celebrated his wedding at this beautiful place. I reached the location at the evening before and took the chance for a late photowalk at the sunset. It was the right decision and I could see an awesome sky until the dusk.

A colorful sunset in the Emmental

Posted on März 12th, 2014

After the spooky troll hut of yesterday, today we have a nice spring sunset. I shoot it in the region of the Emmental near Berne. You can enjoy e very lovely landscape in this part of Switzerland. If you turn around you could see the nice horizon full of mountains and many of them over 4000m high. But this view shows the more flat part of Berne, else I wouldn’t see the nice sunset.

High moon

Posted on März 8th, 2014

As mindful reader do you know the stories about Tschappina. This is an image before the disaster begun. Hmm, not really, actually I had to know that this will not work well. As I left my car I realized I had forgotten my winter jacket. Hey not so bad, I had 3 layers of sweatshirts. Sure it was bad! As bad as it could be with temperatures unter -20°C!!! What a moron, going to the mountains and forget the jacket. Fortunately it was absolutely wind still and I could get this and some other images without the right clothes.

Sunset in the wood

Posted on März 5th, 2014

After the winter was cancled here in lower Switzerland, it seems the spring is coming. We will get some very sunny and warm days, good for removing the winter depression. My recommendation; go out and enjoy the sun. I planned some interesting journeys in the mountains to get more cool images  :) However, take this sunny picture as a warmup for the coming weekend!

A lonely moon

Posted on März 3rd, 2014

And lonely is the moon circling his track around the earth. While the sun is going down on the opposite and throw red light on the snowy mountains, the moon is climbing up in the sky and will brighten up our dark night with his light.
And if the photographer could be at the place to the right time, he could catch the moon while he is nearer at the mountains with more focal length.

The early sunset

Posted on März 1st, 2014

It was on a hot day in last june, were I decided to go up to a mountain. The reason was, the clear weather and the moonless night. The bad part was the temperature about 30°C. The path was steep and the backpack extra heavy because of the additional tent and sleeping bag, to stay overnight at the peak. The plan was to be on the top for the sunset, the night and the sunrise. However I was too late again for the sunset. So I stopped at the half way up and made this image before the sun was gone. I reached the peak at 22:00 and could see the rest of the reddish light at the horizon. And the night sky was really awesome, but this will be another story, so stay tuned ;)

Dark clouds over the wheat

Posted on Februar 27th, 2014

Mostly I’m too late for the right atmosphere, but this time I was at the right time at the right place! While sun was going down on my back, without any clouds, dark clouds where coming from the alps. It was so a dramatic lightning the deep standing sun together with the heavy storm clouds, it looks like a scenery for a horror movie.

Endless sunset in Norddal

Posted on Februar 26th, 2014

Every photographer knows, if the sky is getting red and you don’t have build up your tripod and a shooting ready camera, then you have lost. Because the time windows is so short to catch this perfect sky. But if you are in the far north, where the trolls are at home and you hurry up to get the sunset sky and you are so proud, because this time you was fast enough… Then you will discover you have endless time to shoot a sunset. The sun stays at the horizon as long as you never saw it. The reason is, you are so near the tropic of cancer. So remember, at the equator the sun is hidden within seconds, near the polar circle the sun will maybe never hide or only very slow :)
